Initially, I was more keen on packing our schedule with lively markets and tons of shopping at the heart of Gold Coast. However, our warm and welcoming Airbnb host, Helen, opened my eyes to the peace and serenity that small towns, like Canungra, have to offer.
Right when I woke up this morning, Helen happily offered to make me a hearty breakfast and proceeded to enlighten us about their home’s more exotic features – goats, chickens, kookaburra birds, and even wild wallabies.
Throughout the morning, Helen kept us entertained by letting us feed the goats and collect eggs from the chickens – something I never thought I could do in Gold Coast. Within a matter of minutes, I fell in love with their cosy family farm home.
Best of all was the magnificent scenery, where we could watch the sun rise, set, or even star gaze.
Noon came around, and it was time for lunch. Helen kindly drove us to the nearby village, where we savoured some of Brisbane’s famous meat pies, browsed through the local grocery store, and walked through the park.
All in all, it was an insightful day up in the mountains. If you want to catch a rare glimpse into the life of Gold Coast’s locals, I’d highly recommend a stay at Helen’s.
