Celebrate World Cup and Father’s Day with these four restaurants

Pfandl Platter
17 June, 2018 by Marie Stella No Comments

The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach – show dad some love by treating him to an unforgettable meal this Father’s Day.

Image: Brotzeit

Father’s Day may not hold as much weight as Mother’s Day, but dad certainly deserves to be feted and fed no less.

While fathers may be harder to shop for, it’s much easier to please his stomach.

Here, we’ve rounded up four restaurants to satiate both his passion for World Cup and his appetite.

For massive German platters

Sharing is caring, and what better to way show it than with Brotzeit’s sharing platters?

Meat-loving dads will enjoy the 1kg Pfandl platter ($39), which includes succulent Nürnberger sausages, tender pan-seared beef, savoury pork patties, smoked Kassler, roasted pork collar and meatloaf — laid atop a helping of creamy mashed potatoes.

Meanwhile, larger families can opt for the World Cup Feast ($98) that comes with a choice of six different tapas and a 3-litre keg of draught beer.

#01-149/151 VivoCity, 1 Harbourfront Walk. Singapore 098585. Tel: 6222 9443

For a kid-friendly German Sunday brunch

Known for serving up generous portions of authentic German dishes, Paulaner Bräuhaus is perfect for family gatherings.

Swing by on Sunday for a buffet-style brunch (from $58 per adult), featuring a wide selection of grilled sausages, crispy grilled pork knuckle, apple strudel and other scrumptious German delights.

At the kids’ fun zone, little ones can show appreciation to dad with a customised Father’s Day trophy and card while the adults sit back and relax.

The cherry on top? Football-loving dads can catch live screenings of the highly anticipated Germany vs Mexico match on the bar’s LCD screens!

#01-01 Millenia Walk, 9 Raffles Boulevard. Singapore 039596. Tel: 6883 2572

For amazing burritos and a variety of Mexican drinks

If dad loves a good burrito, he will love Margarita’s.

Topped with creamy guacamole and sour cream, their popular Kitchen Sink Burrito ($24) is packed to the brim with huge chunks of meat, juicy tomatoes and crunchy peppers, making it a great choice for a filling and satisfying dinner.

Image: Magarita’s

Wash it all down with a classic House Margarita (from $17.50) or take your pick from their extensive three-page list of Mexican drinks!

11 Dempsey Rd. Singapore 249673. Tel: 6471 3228

For Mexican cuisine with a modern twist

Contemporary Mexican dishes like Tiger Prawn Tempura Tacos (from $15) and Bluefin Tuna Tostada ($21) take the centre stage on El Mero Mero’s modern menu.

The Atlantic Grilled Octopus ($28) boasts a delightfully soft and springy texture, but it is the robust garlic paste seasoning that makes it a must-try.

#01-20 Chijmes, 30 Victoria St. Singapore 187996. Tel: 6337 1377

FiSK SeafoodBar & Market: A Norwegian-inspired seafood diner & grocer

1 February, 2018 by Marie Stella No Comments

New to Stevens Road is a 4,000sqf dining and retail destination that is swimming with new experiences for diners.

Fisk Seafoodbar & Market prides itself on distributing quality Norwegian seafood, as well as serving unique and top-notch seafood dishes.

Founder of Fisk Seafoodbar & Market and CEO of Snorre Food Frank Naesheim, and executive chef Markus Dybwad, were excited at the opportunity of bringing Norwegian seafood directly to consumers.

“Norwegian food is part of our culture and heritage,” Markus explains.

The diner’s name is the Norwegian word for “fish”, with the interior decor sporting a nautical theme.

Experts are on hand to offer advice on how best to prepare and cook your purchases. | Image: John Heng

Fisk is conceptualised as a onestop solution for seafood enthusiasts – a restaurant and fresh seafood market rolled into one.

After tasting the menu, those who wish to make the dish at home can head to the market, where an array of exotic seafood awaits.

Expert fishmongers are readily available to dish out advice on any aspect of cooking – from produce selection to preparation and best cooking methods.

“Coldwater seafood, especially those coming from Norway, ticks all the right boxes. As a chef, it is about the taste and freshness of the product,” Frank says.

A diverse menu of unique seafood dishes awaits diners. | Image: John Heng

As you dine, you will feel relaxed – Fisk’s interiors exude a sense of tranquillity.

To achieve a timeless Nordic style, the design agency Greymatters added warmth, using rustic materials in a modern manner – the retail area uses glossy finishes that showcase the patina and accents of steel.

Meanwhile, the ocean-like mosaic feature wall and blue leather chairs suggest Fisk’s seafaring roots.

The retail area also features a light installation made of old lobster traps from Kvitsoy, a small group of islands on the west coast of Norway.

Being born and raised in the area, Frank and Fisk operations manager Jarleif were able to rely on personal connections to ship over 20 lobster traps from the fishermen in the area.

Each is personalised with a carving of its owner’s initials.

FiSK SeafoodBar & Market is located at #01-01, 30 Stevens Road, Tel: 6732-0711, www.fisk.com.sg.
